Kirkenes - North Cape - Tromso

Changing the mode of transport...

The famous Hurtigruten post ship service brought us and our tandem comfortably from Kirkenes via Vardo to Honningsvag (about 18 hours of sailing) where we disembarked for a 24 hours stop-over. We enjoyed wonderful wheather and bright midnight sun on this mini cruise, Heidi took even a bath in the jacuzzi on the upper deck at 24:00. The next morning we met Vivien and Joachim with their three marvelous girls in Honningsvag who kindly offered to take us in their campervan on an excursion to the North Cape and back. I, Andreas, realised that the last stretch on this Eurovelo route is indeed quite challenging in terms of steep ascents - and strong winds. Fortunately for me, Heidi had already declared categorically beforehand that she would not cycle that road in any case. We spent a very nice evening with dinner with Vivien and Joachim directly on the pier at the harbour of Honningsvag before we all  went sleeping in their campervan. We were soo happy that we did not have to dismount our tent before 5:45 in the morning when the boat heads off to Tromso via Hammerfest (again about 18 hours of sailing). There whether turned cloudy, chilly and windy, but the ever-changing landscape with the fjords and snow-covered mountains is really impressive.

Small hint to fellow cyclists travelling on a budget: for port-to-port bookings on the Hurtigruten it is not obligatory to book a cabin as long as your trip is less than 24 hours (it is still expensive, though).
