Happy New Year!

Posted 1/1/2019

Our best wishes to all of you!

We spent the last night of the past year on a camping site between Meknes and Volubilis/Fertassa. Trying to avoid large roads and too high mountains, we had an adventurous last stretch on our ride from Ain Cheggag, cutting through olive groves and scrubland. We got lost in a tiny berber village in the middle of nowhere, where we felt time had stopped maybe a century ago, even by Moroccan standards. Shepherd boys laughing and pushing our bike uphill as we realised that this was maybe not exactly the end of the world, but for sure the end of any road or even path. Instantly, the whole village, maybe 20 people, gathered around us. No way to communicate in words. But we understood. We were invited to have a "chai" (tea) and to stay overnight because the "piste" to the next village and eventually back to a road was clearly too bad for our bike...We declined. Maybe because we were overwhelmed, maybe because we could not fancy another evening and night among very friendly people, but with whom we could not communicate, or simply because we are bloody Europeans unable to spontanously accept spontaneous invitations? We continued the piste which they indicated.

When we finally arrived at the camp site, we started regretting our decision: The campsite was just full of French with their campervans. They were on one of these organised "bulk" or "convoy" tours, where a group of 10-20 vans tour together....Out of a sudden, the idea to pass from the old year to the new one in a remote tiny berber village felt outright better.

In the morning on New Years day, we discovered that we had a flat tire. It took me three (!) times dismounting and mounting the wheel to find and fix the five (!) tiny holes one single thorn had pierced into the tube. That was on the "piste" from the village to the camp site. Coincidence?

In that sense go our best wishes to you all for 2019: Take a step back to really see what life is offering you! And take then the time it needs to take the decisions you need to take!

Keep sending us emails, with wishes, encouragements, questions! We really appreciate to stay in contact with you all. And again: Take your bike(s), and join us for a stretch!
