Malta

Posted 28/1/2019

After three(!) days without sailing due to heavy wind and rough sea, the Malta speed catamaran ferry finally annouced that it would re-start operation on Sunday

After our excursion into the Vale di Noto - which is despite its name ("valley") rather mountanous - we thus cycled back to the coast, spent the night in Pozzallo and checked in for the two hour crossing to the island.
To make it short: Malta has so many things to see that we really regretted that we only had planned 2 days for a short dive into its rich history and monuments.  We managed to see two orf the Temples from the Neolithic Age, 1500 years prior to the piramides in Egypt, shortly visited - another - Rabat and Mdina :-) and spent most of the second day in Valettas wonderful Museum, (exposition culture  clearly benefitting from the British influence) also filling in valuable information on the Phoenecian presence in the Mediterranean.
The visit to St Johns cathedral provided further insights into the Maltese/St Johns order, a topic we started coming across in  the pilgrim hospital in Genua and some of Caravaggios paintings next to gory details on his life. Malta is definitely on our list for future visits.
