Palermo, from an architectural point of view constitutes a  good synthesis of our trip so far: especially the World heritage sites of the Arabo-Normanno buildings are a perfect synthesis of the Norman invaders, employing Arab craftsmen to build churches and Palazzi...

 

We spent two days mainly in the historical center and enjoyed the botanical garden. I had a private Yoga class (as no one else appeared) and Andreas managed to collect my medication which Sarka and Urban had sent to the friend of a friend of Duccio (a member of our construction group in Leipzig). Thanks to all of you I am now again equipped for a couple of weeks. 
 
In garden and city alike, the state of maintenance is not always top but the collection is quite impressive. The city is an interesting combination of bustling modern city and quite morbid corners. Overall the history of Sicily is overwhelming and traces can be found of almost all the different cultures. We focused on the Normanic architecture (Cathedral, Palazzo Reale with Capilla Palatina, La Martolana, and left out the archeological museum, which we regretted a bit when we visited Selinunte and Agrigento excavations later...
