Urban planning around 1600
My first 'touristic' stop in Poland coming from Ukraine was Zamosc. The land was offered as a gift by the king to his principle adviser, Jan Zamoski, who called upon an Italian architect to build him a new town, his town, from scratch. The old town is amazingly well conserved/restored and testifies to the natural multiculturalism with armenian traders' houses at the main square, a synagogue for sephardic jews, a greek othodox church etc...
Despite the rainy wheather, I decided to do an audio-guided tour. I highly recommend it, text, instructions all is very clear, helpful, informative to understand the city's history (and a bit of Polish history). Excellent! I really enjoyed the 2 hours tour before I had a decent lunch on the market place, fortunately under umbrellas as it poured with rain. Late afternoon, I still managed to head North to Krastynaw without too much rain.
